Ashburn Woman's Dance Studios Named Best in State Loudoun Times-Mirror Business Section By Jason Jacks February 23, 2009
Watch out, Broadway -- you have competition in the business of turning flat-footed souls into award-winning twinkle toes: Loudoun.
This month, Dancer Magazine named Creative Dance Center, which has studios in Ashburn and Chantilly, the state's best studio for churning out competition-winning dancers. It was listed as the 20th best in North America.
"It was a surprise," said Ramona Batchelder, of Ashburn and the center's owner. "They didn't even call. It just appeared in the magazine."
Rankings, the magazine said, were determined by how well each studio's dancers fared in competitions held throughout the country in 2008.
Batchelder founded the center by first opening the Chantilly studio in 1986 and then the Ashburn location about 15 years later.
Today, 115 boys and girls ages 4 to 18 compete at events for the center in lyrical, jazz, tap and musical-theater dance styles.
"I'm more excited for the kids and the instructors," Batchelder said. "It is really a tribute to their hard work." See www.cdcdance.com to learn more.
